I drove to work that morning, while receiving texts from my mom and brother. This was the day for sure. She was already past due. They gave me the report: Chanin was doing fine; looked like we had a long day ahead of us. I was on the phone on and off, with my brother, then with my mom, continuously checking in. I wondered just how many more hours I would have to wait. All of a sudden, our plans changed directions. My mom called me. Emergency C-section. Baby is coming..now. I couldn’t believe it at first. I had prepared myself for a lengthy day of text and phone call updates while at school. Now I was hearing that in a matter of minutes, I would find out if I had a niece or a nephew.
I continued on my day teaching, constantly aware of the endeavor my brother and sister-in-law were currently facing. I shared my anticipation and joy with others, letting them know another person was about to join our big world. Luckily, I didn’t have to wait much longer. My phone rang. It was my brother, Eric. With overwhelming anxious excitement, I awaited the sentence…
It’s a GIRL!
And then,
Her name is Cosette.
Congratulations on being an aunt. It must have been hard to concentrate on teaching when you were waiting for the phone to ring.

It was a whirlwind of a day! I left for a couple hours in the afternoon to meet her for the first time (perhaps another slice?).

Thanks for reading! Good question. I hope to be a fun, teacher aunt who can do crafts with her, take her hiking, talk about life, and set a good example for her. I am excited to be a part of her life!
